The Search for Mainland Devils

On the basis of the historical evidence for mainland devils at various points in recent history, the authors of this site have launched a project to search for evidence of devils in the wild on the mainland today.

A number of avenues of enquiry are being pursued.

  • The historical evidence for mainland devils is being reviewed for the opportunity to pursue additional lines of enquiry,
  • Should new (previously unpublished) evidence for mainland devils come to light, this will be similarly investigated,
  • Automated camera systems are being deployed in strategic locations in Victoria; this aspect of the project should yield useful biodiversity data even if no devil data is acquired.
  • Additional devil sampling techniques are being researched and may be employed.

Occassional progress reports and media releases are published under the heading "Announcements" on the homepage.

We are grateful for the support, encouragement and advice provided by a number of individuals and organisations. In due course we would like to publicly thank them here.
